Genealogy: Representatives from the Institute of Migration, the Swedish
Finnish Historical Society, and the Finnish Genealogy Group of
Minnesota will be on hand to help people work on family genealogy
research. Computers will be set up and assistance with on-line
databases will be available.

Military Display — Lake Superior M & N
Brent Snodgrass, a researcher of Finnish-Russian-Soviet small arms, the founder of the Estonian Veterans Research Interviews, and an assistant to the Finnish Veterans Interview Project has brought a section of his vast military collection to display. Marshall Kregel will also assist with the exhibit.

Craft Room — Chester Creek Room
Each day the Craft Room will highlight different demonstrations of Finnish-American crafts, including spinning, weaving, lastu crafts, Sami birch root jewelry, bobbin lace, himmeli, birch bark baskets, Ojibwe bead work and dream catchers, and the entire process to turn flax straw into woven linen, etc. Stop by and help us weave a special table runner that will be a gift to the President of Finland from all of us at FinnFest 2008!

Sami Camp --- Outside (southwest of the Auditorium by the “Statue of Liberty”)
The Sami Siida of North America, a loosely organized group of self-identified Sami descendants, has gathered for winter and summer Siidastallens. At FinnFest 2008 the Siida will host a Sami camp at the west end of the DECC near the small Statue of Liberty. The camp will feature a lavvu and reindeer from the Dancing Reindeer Farm, The Dancing Reindeer Farm, is owned by Tom Scheib & Liisa Mayo, Milltown, Wisc. The reindeer have traveled to reindeer exhibitions, parades, festivals, and FinnFests, and have been in movies and commercials. Sami craft demonstrations, lavvus furnished with objects of everyday life, and traditionally dressed Siida members who will answer questions about Sami life, history, and culture. It is a place and time for those of Sami heritage and others interested in the Sami to learn and find fellowship in a welcoming, traditional and educational setting.
